The 5 MCPs Worth Installing in Claude

Five connectors that let Claude reach your browser, your inbox, your Notion, real web data, and Canva. Most of them install in a couple of clicks.

Claude on its own only knows what you paste into the chat. MCPs are what let it reach your actual apps.

Before you start

An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server is a connector between Claude and a tool you already use. In the Claude app these show up as Connectors, same thing, friendlier name.

Most of these install straight from Settings → Connectors in the Claude desktop app. The ones that need a manual setup have their repo linked below.

The 5 MCPs

1. 🎭 Playwright

Why it helps: Opens a real Chrome window that Claude controls. It can log in, click through a site, and read what is actually on the page instead of guessing from memory. This is the one that turns Claude from a chatbot into something that can go do things on the web.

2. 📬 Gmail

Why it helps: Claude reads, labels, drafts, and sends from your inbox. Point it at a thread and ask for a reply, or let it sort the whole morning before you wake up. Best return on setup time of anything on this list.

→ Get Gmail MCP

3. 📓 Notion

Why it helps: Claude queries your databases and writes back to them. Ask about a project and it reads the real page, not the summary you pasted three weeks ago. If your second brain lives in Notion, this closes the loop.

→ Get Notion MCP

4. 🕷️ Apify

Why it helps: Runs thousands of ready made scrapers. Claude collects listings, profiles, reviews, or search results and hands them back as a clean table. This is how you get real data in instead of vibes.

→ Get Apify MCP

5. 🎨 Canva

Why it helps: Claude builds and edits Canva designs from a prompt. Give it the copy and it lays out the post, then exports it ready to publish. Cuts the gap between writing something and having it look finished.

Where to start

If you only install one, make it Playwright. It unlocks the most on its own. Gmail is the fastest to feel useful day to day.
